Titanium 16G Captive Bead Septum Ring

A captive bead ring uses a small ball held between the two ends of the ring, closing the hoop without a hinge or threaded closure.

Why Choose a Captive Bead Ring

Unlike a horseshoe, this one closes fully. Worn in a septum piercing, what shows below the nose is a complete circle with a single ball sitting at the bottom — a look that reads as more finished than an open shape.

The ball has a small dimple on each side, and the ring’s ends sit into those dimples. Tension is what holds it, which means there’s no hinge to wear out and no threads to cross. It also means the ball can be swapped for a different size or a stone-set one later, as long as the gauge matches.

Choosing Your Size

Gauge

1.2mm (16G) — A common gauge for septum jewelry and the only gauge offered for this style

Diameter

8mm — A closer fit, sits tighter to the septum
10mm — The most commonly chosen size
12mm — A larger circle with a more noticeable drop

Ball Size

3mm — The ball size used across all diameters in this style

Size Note

This ring comes in 1.2mm (16G). Diameter affects how closely the ring sits to the nose and how much of the circle shows below it. Fit can also vary depending on individual anatomy and piercing placement. If you’re unsure which size to choose, consult a professional piercer for guidance.

Titanium

Made from titanium, this ring is lightweight and features a smooth polished finish. Available in silver and gold color options. The gold tone is a finish applied over the titanium base — the name describes the color only, and neither option is solid silver or gold.

Material compatibility can vary from person to person. If you have a known metal sensitivity, or are choosing jewelry for a fresh or healing piercing, it’s worth checking with a qualified professional piercer about the most suitable material and fit.

How to Put It In

  • First, wash and dry your hands before handling the jewelry. Work over a flat surface — the ball is small and easy to lose if it drops.
  • Next, hold the ring on both sides of the ball and ease the ball out. It may help to rotate it slightly as you release it.
  • Then, guide one end of the ring through the septum piercing, following the curve rather than pushing straight.
  • Finally, seat one dimple of the ball against one end of the ring, then ease the other end into the second dimple until the ball is held firmly.

Getting the ball back in takes a little practice the first time. Work slowly rather than forcing the ring wider than it needs to go.

Care Instructions

To maintain the finish of your ring, gently wipe the jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth. When needed, rinse with warm water and mild soap, then rinse thoroughly and dry completely.

Keep the ball somewhere safe whenever it’s out of the ring — it’s small and easy to lose. Avoid opening the ring wider than needed, as repeated over-flexing can reduce the tension that holds the ball in place. Check from time to time that the ball still sits firmly between both ends.

Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, alcohol-based products, and rough materials that may affect the surface finish. It’s also worth removing the jewelry before swimming and avoiding direct contact with skincare or cosmetic products. For healing piercings, follow the aftercare instructions provided by your professional piercer.
